하나님의 위대한 사랑의 사이클
서른 살에 예수님을 처음 믿은 나는 주님께 내 삶을 드리고나서 많은 질문이 있었습니다. 성경을 읽기 시작하며 질문은 더 많아졌습니다. 그래서 친구에게 연락했습니다. “하나님의 명령을 어떻게 다 지킬 수 있지? 오늘 아침에도 남편에게 갑자기 화를 냈는데!”
친구는 말했습니다. “성경을 계속 읽으면서 예수님이 널 사랑하듯 너도 그렇게 사랑하게 해달라고 성령님께 구해봐.”
하나님의 자녀로 20년 넘게 살아온 나에게 이 간단하고도 깊은 진리는 지금도 하나님의 위대한 사랑의 사이클을 이루어가는 세 단계를 이해하는데 도움을 줍니다. 그 세 단계는 첫째, 바울 사도가 분명히 말하기를, 예수님을 믿는 사람들의 삶의 중심은 사랑이라고 했습니다. 둘째, “남을 사랑하는 사람은 율법을 다 지킨 것”이라는 말씀처럼, 그리스도를 따르는 사람들은 “서로 사랑의 빚”을 계속 갚음으로써 순종하는 삶을 살아갑니다(로마서 13:8, 현대인의 성경). 마지막으로 “사랑은 이웃에게 악을 행하지 아니하므로”(10절) 우리가 율법을 완성하게 됩니다.
십자가에서 죽으신 그리스도를 통해 가장 잘 보여준 우리를 향한 하나님의 깊은 사랑을 경험할 때 우리는 감사함으로 응답해야 합니다. 우리가 감사하는 마음으로 예수님께 헌신하면, 우리는 말과 행동과 태도로 다른 사람을 사랑할 수 있게 됩니다. 진정한 사랑은 사랑이신 유일한 참 하나님으로부터 흘러나옵니다(요한1서 4:16, 19).
사랑의 하나님, 하나님의 놀라운 사랑의 사이클 안에 우리를 붙들어 주소서!

사랑하는 예수님, 저를 향한 예수님의 사랑을 믿고 그 넘치는 사랑으로 다른 사람을 사랑할 수 있도록 도와주소서.

GOD’S GREAT LOVE CYCLE
As a new believer in Jesus at the age of thirty, I had lots of questions after committing my life to Him. When I started reading the Scriptures, I had even more questions. I reached out to a friend. “How can I possibly obey all God’s commands? I just snapped at my husband this morning!”
“Just keep reading your Bible,” she said, “and ask the Holy Spirit to help you love like Jesus loves you.”
After more than twenty years of living as a child of God, that simple but profound truth still helps me embrace the three steps in His great love cycle: First, the apostle Paul affirmed that love is central in the life of a believer in Jesus. Second, by continuing to pay the “debt to love one another,” followers of Christ will walk in obedience, “for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law” (ROMANS 13:8). Finally, we fulfill the law because “love does no harm to a neighbor” (V. 10).
When we experience the depth of God’s love for us, demon- strated best through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, we can respond with gratitude. Our grateful devotion to Jesus leads to loving others with our words, actions, and attitudes. Genuine love flows from the one true God who is love (1 JOHN 4:16, 19). Loving God, help us get caught up in Your great love cycle!! - XOCHITL DIXON
