어린 아이 같이
어린 여자아이가 찬양에 맞추어 즐겁고 우아하게 몸을 움직이고 있었습니다. 그 아이 혼자만 통로에 나와 있었는데, 이에 개의치 않고 음악에 맞춰 빙빙 돌고 팔을 흔들며 다리를 들어 올렸습니다. 아이의 엄마는 입가에 미소를 지으며 아이가 하는 것을 그대로 두었습니다.
그 아이를 보면서 내 마음도 움직여 따라 하고 싶었지만 그러질 못했습니다. 나는 남을 의식하지 않고 기쁨과 경이감을 표현하던 동심을 오래전에 잃어버렸던 것입니다. 우리는 자라고 성숙해지면서 아이 같은 유치한 행동은 멈춰야 하지만, 기쁨과 경이감마저 잃어버려야 하는 것은 아닙니다. 하나님과의 관계에 있어서는 더욱 그렇습니다.
예수님은 세상에 계실 때 어린 아이들을 반기셨고 가르치실 때도 아이들을 자주 인용하셨습니다(마태복음 11:25; 18:3; 21:16). 한 번은 아이들의 축복을 위해 부모들이 아이들을 예수님께 데려오는 것을 금지시킨 제자들을 나무라시며, 주님은 “어린 아이들이 내게 오는 것을 용납하고 금하지 말라 하나님의 나라가 이런 자의 것이니라”(마가복음 10:14)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님이 말씀하신 ‘어린 아이 같다’는 것은 그리스도를 쉽게 받아들이는 것, 즉 기쁨과 경이감 뿐만 아니라 단순하고 의지하고 맡기는 겸손한 마음을 말합니다.
어린 아이 같은 경이감과 기쁨(그리고 더 많은 다른 것들)은 우리 마음의 문을 열어 예수님을 더욱 잘 받아들이게 해줍니다. 예수님은 우리가 그분의 품으로 달려오기를 기다리고 계십니다.

믿음은 어린 아이 같은 마음 안에서 가장 빛난다.

Like a Little Child
The little girl moved joyfully and gracefully to the music of praise. She was the only one in the aisle but that didn’t keep her from spinning and waving her arms and lifting her feet to the music. Her mother, a smile on her lips, didn’t try to stop her.
My heart lifted as I watched, and I longed to join her—but didn’t. I’d long ago lost the unselfconscious expression of joy and wonder of my childhood. Even though we are meant to grow and mature and put childish ways behind us, we were never meant to lose the joy and wonder, especially in our relationship with God.
When Jesus lived on Earth, He welcomed little children to Him and often referred to them in His teaching (Matthew 11:25; 18:3; 21:16). On one occasion, He rebuked His disciples for attempting to keep parents from bringing their children to Him for a blessing, saying, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Mark 10:14). Jesus was referring to the childlike characteristics that ready us to receive Christ—joy and wonder, but also simplicity, dependence, trust, and humility. - ALYSON KIEDA
Childlike wonder and joy (and more) open our hearts to be more receptive to Him. He is waiting for us to run into His arms.
