놀라움에 초점을 맞춤
세상을 볼 때 오로지 잘못된 점들만 보는 경향을 가진 사람들이 있습니다. 그런데 ‘내셔널 지오그래픽’에서 일하는 사진작가 드윗 존스는 자기 직업을 이용하여 세상의 좋은 점들을 부각시켜 오고 있습니다. 그는 계속 기다리고 관찰하면서 늘 있던 풍경이나 사물에 한 줄기 빛이 비치거나 그것들을 다른 시각에서 봄으로써 갑자기 놀라운 장면이 연출되는 순간을 포착합니다. 그는 자기 카메라를 사용하여 인간과 자연의 가장 평범한 모습 속에서 아름다움을 찾아냅니다.
세상의 잘못된 점에 초점을 맞출만한 이유를 가진 사람이 있다면 욥이야말로 그런 사람이었습니다. 그에게 기쁨을 주었던 모든 것들을 잃어버린 후 그의 친구들까지도 그를 비난했습니다. 그들은 입을 모아 욥이 숨겨왔던 죄 때문에 고통을 당하면서도 그것을 인정하지 않는다고 조롱했습니다. 욥이 하늘을 향해 울부짖으며 도움을 간구했으나 하나님은 계속 침묵하셨습니다.
마침내 하나님은 회오리바람의 혼돈과 폭풍의 암흑 속에서, 욥에게 우리 자신을 훨씬 능가하는 지혜와 힘을 보여주는 자연의 놀라움을 생각해보라고 하셨습니다(욥기 38:2-4).
하나님이 지금 우리에게 그것을 묻고 계신 것은 아닐까요? 개나 고양이, 팔랑거리는 잎사귀, 혹은 잔디 잎 같은 자연적인 것들을 통해서 말입니다. 우리가 설사 고통 중에 있다 하더라도, 한 줄기 빛이 비치거나
다른 시각에서 바라보게 된다면 언제나 우리와 함께 계시고 우리를 위하시는 창조주 하나님의 마음과 생각이 드러날 수도 있지 않을까요?

하늘에 계신 아버지, 우리는 세상의 잘못된 점과 나쁜 점만을 생각하는데 너무 많은 시간을 보냈습니다. 하나님만이 하실 수 있는 놀라운 일들을 통해 하나님이 계시다는 증거를 볼 수 있게 도와주소서.
자연의 모습 속에는 끝없는 경이로움이 있다.

Wonders in Focus
Some of us are inclined to look at the world and see only what’s wrong. DeWitt Jones is a National Geographic photographer who has used his profession to celebrate what’s right about the world. He waits and watches until a shaft of light or turn of perspective suddenly reveals a wonder that had been there all along. He uses his camera to find beauty in the most common faces of people and nature.
If anyone had reason to focus on the wrongs of the world, Job did. After losing all that had given him joy, even his friends became his accusers. Together their voices taunted him for not admitting that he was suffering for sins he was hiding. When Job cried out to the heavens for help, God remained silent.
Finally, from within the chaos of a whirlwind and the darkness of a storm, God asked Job to consider wonders of nature that reflect a wisdom and power far beyond our own (Job 38:2–4).
Would He now ask us? What about something as natural as the ways of a dog, cat, fluttering leaf, or blade of grass? Could a shaft of light, or a turn of perspective, reveal—even in our pain—the mind and heart of a Creator who has been with us and for us all along? - MART DEHAAN

Father in heaven, we’ve spent too much time thinking only about what is wrong and broken with our world. Please help us to see evidence of Your presence in the wonder of what only You could have done.
