입 맞추며 바로잡아주기

조지 맥도날드는 그의 우화집 ‘지혜로운 여인’에서 이기심 때문에 자신뿐 아니라 모든 사람들에게 불행을 가져다주는 두 소녀가 어느 지혜로운 여인의 도움으로 여러 시험을 거치며 다시 “사랑스러운” 소녀가 되어 가는 이야기를 하고 있습니다.

두 소녀가 각각의 시험을 통과하지 못해 수치심과 고립감을 겪은 후에, 그들 중 로자몬드가 마침내 자기 혼자의 힘으로는 스스로를 변화시킬 수 없다는 것을 깨닫게 됩니다. “저를 도와주실 수 없나요?” 소녀가 그 지혜로운 여인 에게 묻습니다. “이제 네가 내게 요청하니 아마 할 수 있을 거야.” 여인이 대답했습니다. 그리고 바로 그 지혜로운 여인으로 상징된 하나님의 도움 으로 로자몬드가 변하기 시작합니다. 소녀는 또 자신이 그동안 일으킨 모든 문제를 용서해 줄 건지 여인에게 묻습니다. 여인은 “내가 용서하지 않았다면, 너를 벌하려고 애쓰지도 않았을 거야.”라고 대답합니다.

하나님은 때때로 우리를 징계하시며 단련시킬 때가 있습니다. 그럴 때 왜 그러시는지 이해하는 것이 중요합니다. 하나님의 바로잡음은 응징하기 위한 것이 아니라 우리가 잘 되기를 바라는 아버지의 마음으로 하시는 것입니다 (히브리서 12:6). 하나님은 또한 우리가 “그의 거룩함에 참여”하여 “의와 평강”의 열매를 누리기를 원하십니다(10-11절). 이기심은 불행을 가져오지만, 거룩함은 우리를 주님과 같이 온전하고 기쁘고 “사랑스럽게” 만들어 줍니다.

CORRECTION WITH A KISS

In his parable The Wise Woman, George MacDonald tells the story of two girls, whose selfishness brings misery to all, including them- selves, until a wise woman puts them through a series of tests to help them become “lovely” again.

After the girls fail each test and suffer shame and isolation, one of them, Rosamond, finally realizes she can’t change herself. “Couldn’t you help me?” she asks the wise woman. “Perhaps I could,” the woman replied, “now that you ask me.” And with the divine help symbolized by the wise woman, Rosamond begins to change. She then asks if the woman would forgive all the trouble she’s caused. “If I had not forgiven you,” the woman says, “I would never have taken the trouble to punish you.”

There are times when God disciplines us. It’s important to understand why. His correction isn’t driven by retribution but by a fatherly concern for our welfare (HEBREWS 12:6). He also desires that we may “share in his holiness,” enjoying a harvest of “righteousness and peace” (VV. 10-11). Selfishness brings misery, but holiness makes us whole, joyful, and “lovely” like Him.

Rosamond asks the wise woman how she can love a selfish girl like her. Stooping to kiss her, the woman replies, “I saw what you were going to be.” God’s correction too comes with love and a desire to make us who we’re meant to be.

하늘을 보라

알렉스 스몰리는 모든 사람이 좀더 일찍 일어나거나 낮이 끝날 때까지 좀더 기다리기를 바랍니다. 왜일까요? 일출과 일몰을 바라보기 위함입니다. 경외심을 불러일으키는 날씨의 영향력에 대해 연구하는 영국의 책임 연구원 스몰리는 그 잠깐 동안의 순간들이야 말로 하루 중 가장 아름답고 경이로운 시간이라고 말합니다. 푸른 하늘이나 별이 반짝이는 밤하늘보다도 아주 아름다운 일출이나 일몰이 사람들을 더 기분 좋게 하고, 긍정적인 감정을 증가시키며, 스트레스를 감소시킬 수 있습니다. 스몰리는 이렇게 말합니다. “무언가 거대하고 웅장하거나 경외심을 불러일으키는 것을 볼 때 자신의 문제들이 줄어드는 것을 느끼고, 그래서 그런 고민들을 많이 걱정하지 않게 됩니다.”

LOOK TO THE SKIES

Alex Smalley wants everyone to wake up earlier—or perhaps pause more at day’s end. Why? To gaze at sunrises and sunsets. Those fleeting moments are the most beautiful, awe-inspiring times of the day, according to Smalley, the lead researcher of a British study on awe-inducing weather effects. Even more than blue skies or glittering nightscapes, a stunning sunrise or sunset can improve mood, increase positive emotions, and decrease stress. Smalley says, “When you see something vast and overwhelming or something that produces this feeling of awe, your own problems can feel diminished and so you don’t worry so much about them.”

His findings on wonder echo those of the prophet Jeremiah: “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you” (JEREMIAH 32:17).

King David also beheld God’s creation, declaring, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge” (PSALM 19:1-2). As for the sun, “It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth” (V. 6). God’s glorious creation reflects the all-powerful Creator. Why not take time today to look to the skies and marvel in Him!

록키 영화 시리즈는 불가능한 확률을 극복하고 헤비급 챔피언이 되는, 불굴의 신념에 찬 풋내기 권투선수의 이야기를 보여주고 있습니다. 록키 영화 3편에서는 이제 성공한 록키는 자신이 이룬 업적에 감격한 나머지 자만에 빠져 체육관에서 연습 시간에 텔레비전 광고를 찍기도 합니다. 챔피언은 점점 나약해져 가고 결국 도전자에게 녹아웃 당합니다. 영화의 나머지 부분은 싸움의 긴장감을 되찾기 위해 록키가 다시 노력하는 모습을 보여주고 있습니다.

영적인 의미로 보면 유다의 아사 왕은 싸움의 긴장감을 잃었습니다. 통치 초기에 아사 왕은 감당하기 힘든 역경에 직면하여 하나님을 의지했습니다. 막강한 구스 사람들이 침략하기 위해 준비하고 있을 때 아사 왕은 이렇게 기도했습니다. “우리 하나님 여호와여 우리를 도우소서 우리가 주를 의지하오며 주의 이름을 의탁하옵고 이 많은 무리를 치러 왔나이다”(역대하 14:11). 하나님이 그의 기도에 응답하셔서 유다는 적들을 쳐서 흩어버렸습니다(12-15절).

여러 해 후, 유다는 다시 위협을 받았습니다. 그러나 이번에는 안일해진 아사 왕이 하나님을 무시하고 대신 이웃 나라 아람 왕에게 도움을 청했습니다 (16:2-3). 이번에도 승리하는 것 같았지만 하나님은 기뻐하지 않으셨습니다. 하나니 선지자는 아사 왕에게 그가 하나님을 의지하지 않았다고 말했습니다 (7-8절). 왜 그가 지난 번처럼 하나님을 의지하지 않았을까요?

우리 하나님은 한결같이 신뢰할 수 있는 분이십니다. 여호와의 눈은 “온 땅을 두루 감찰하사 전심으로 자기에게 향하는 자들을 위하여 능력을 베푸십니다”(9절). 우리가 영적 긴장감을 유지하고 전적으로 하나님을 의지할 때 하나님의 능력을 경험하게 될 것입니다.

KEEPING OUR SPIRITUAL EDGE

The Rocky movies tell the story of a raw boxer, fueled by never-say-die determination, who overcomes improbable odds to become heavyweight champion. In Rocky III, a now successful Rocky becomes impressed with his own achievements. Television commercials disrupt his time in the gym. The champ grows soft, and he’s knocked out by a challenger. The rest of the movie is Rocky’s attempt to regain his fighting edge.

In a spiritual sense, King Asa of Judah lost his fighting edge. Early in his reign, he relied on God in the face of daunting odds. As the mighty Cushites prepared to attack, Asa prayed, “Help us, Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army” (2 CHRONICLES 14:11). God answered his prayer, and Judah struck down and scattered their enemies (VV. 12-15).

Years later, Judah was threatened again. This time a complacent Asa ignored God and instead asked the king of Aram for help (16:2-3). It seemed to work. But God wasn’t pleased. The prophet Hanani told Asa that he’d stopped trusting God (VV. 7-8). Why hadn’t he relied on God now as he had then?

Our God is unfailingly reliable. His eyes “range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him” (V. 9). When we keep our spiritual edge—fully depending on God—we’ll experience His power.

자비를 베풀 것인가, 복수할 것인가? 이사야는 리틀리그 야구의 지역선수권 경기 도중 투수의 폭투에 머리를 맞고는 머리를 붙잡으며 운동장 바닥에 쓰러졌습니다. 다행히 그는 헬멧 덕분에 심각한 부상은 당하지 않았습니다. 경기가 재개되자 이사야는 투수가 자신의 의도치 않은 실수 때문에 확연히 흔들리고 있다는 것을 알았습니다. 그 순간 이사야는 아주 놀라운 모습을 보였는데, 그의 반응이 담긴 영상이 온라인에 빠르게 퍼졌습니다. 그는 투수에게 걸어가 위로의 포옹을 해주며, 자신이 괜찮다는 것을 알려주었던 것입니다.

다툼이 생길 수 있는 상황에서 이사야는 자비를 선택했습니다.

구약에서 우리는 에서가 그를 속인 쌍둥이 형제 야곱에게 복수하려고 오랫동안 품어온 계획을 포기하는, 위와 비슷하지만 훨씬 더 어려운 선택을 하는 모습을 봅니다. 야곱이 20년의 객지 생활을 마치고 고향으로 돌아왔을 때, 에서는 야곱이 자신에게 잘못한 일에 대한 복수 대신 자비와 용서를 선택했습니다. 에서는 야곱을 보자 “달려와서 그를 맞이하여 안아” 주었습니다 (창세기 33:4). 에서는 야곱의 사과를 받아들이고 괜찮다고 알려주었습니다 (9-11절).

EXTENDING CHRIST’S KINDNESS

Kindness or revenge? Isaiah had just been hit in the head by a wild pitch during a Little League regional championship baseball game. He dropped to the ground holding his head. Thankfully, his helmet protected him from serious injury. As play resumed, Isaiah noticed the pitcher was visibly shaken by his unintentional error. In that moment, Isaiah did something so extraordinary that the video of his response went viral. He walked over to the pitcher, gave him a comforting hug, and made sure the pitcher knew he was all right.

In a situation that could have resulted in a brawl, Isaiah chose kindness.

In the Old Testament, we see Esau make a similar, though far more difficult, choice to abandon any long-harbored plans for revenge against his deceiving twin brother Jacob. As Jacob returned home after twenty years in exile, Esau chose kindness and forgiveness instead of vengeance for the ways Jacob had wronged him. When Esau saw Jacob, he “ran to meet [him] and embraced him” (GENESIS 33:4). Esau accepted Jacob’s apology and let him know he was all right (VV. 9-11).

When someone demonstrates remorse for wrongs committed against us, we have a choice: kindness or revenge. Choosing to embrace them in kindness follows Jesus’ example (ROMANS 5:8) and is a pathway toward reconciliation.

과거와 현재의 하나님

우리 아이들을 키웠던 오레곤 마을을 떠난 지 여러 해가 지났습니다. 그곳에서 여러 좋은 추억들이 있었는데, 최근 그곳을 방문하면서 그동안 잊고 있었던 여러 순간들이 떠올랐습니다. 딸들의 축구 경기, 옛 집, 교회 모임, 그리고 친구들이 하는 멕시코 요리점. 그 마을은 변했지만 아직 익숙한 것이 많이 남아 있어서 다시 방문하고 싶은 바람이 생겨났습니다.

이스라엘 백성들이 바벨론으로 포로로 잡혀갔을 때, 그들은 고향 사람들과 주요 건물들, 그들의 문화 등, 그들에게 익숙한 것들을 그리워했습니다. 그들은 하나님께 반역하여 포로로 잡혀온 것을 잊고 있었습니다. 거짓 선지자들이 포로로 잡혀 온 그들에게 2년 이내에 고향으로 돌아갈 것이라고 말하자(예레미야 28:2-4; 29:8-9), 그들은 그 말을 믿었습니다. 그들은 곧 고향으로 돌아갈 것이라고 약속하는 거짓 선지자들의 그럴 듯한 말을 쉽게 받아들였습니다.

고향 생각은 우리 마음을 희롱하여 쉽게 예전 것을 갈망하게 만듭니다. 하지만 지금 하나님이 하시는 일을 놓치지 마십시오. 하나님은 그분의 약속을 반드시 이루십니다.

GOD IN THE PAST AND PRESENT

It had been years since we left the Oregon town where we raised our family. We’d made great memories there, and the recent visit reminded me of moments I’d forgotten: our girls’ soccer games, our old home, church gatherings, and our friends’ Mexican restaurant. The town had changed, but there was enough of the familiar to spark my desire to return for a visit.

When the Israelites went into exile in Babylon, they missed the familiarity of people, landmarks, and culture. They forgot they’d been exiled for rebelling against God. When false prophets told the exiles they’d return home within two years (JEREMIAH 28:2-4; 29:8-9), they found a receptive audience. It was easy to listen to the slick words of false prophets who promised a return home soon.

God didn’t take kindly to these peddlers of the past and their false promises. “Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you,” He said (29:8). He had plans for His people, “plans to give [them] hope and a future” (V. 11). The situation was challenging, difficult, and new, but God was with them. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart,” He told them (V. 13). God would bring them “back to the place from which I carried you into exile” (V. 14), but in His timing.

Nostalgia plays tricks on the mind, making it easy to long for what once was. Don’t miss what God is doing right now. He will fulfill His promises.

MAKING GOD KNOWN

A love for God and for people undergirds Kathryn’s Bible translating work. She rejoices when women in India come to a deeper understanding of Scripture, reading it in their mother tongue. She remarks that when they do, “They often start cheering or clapping. They read about Jesus, and they say, ‘Oh, wonderful!’ ”

Kathryn longs for more people to read the Scriptures in their own language. In this desire, she holds close to her heart the vision of the aging disciple John on the island of Patmos. Through the Spirit, God ushered him into the throne room of heaven, where he saw “a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb” (REVELATION 7:9). All together they worshiped God, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God” (V. 10).

God continues to add to the great number of people praising Him. He uses not only the work of Bible translators and those praying for them, but also those who reach out to their neighbors in love with the good news of Jesus. We can rejoice in this joyful mission, marveling at how God will spark more people to join with the angels in saying, “Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever” (V. 12).

직장 상사로부터 “당신이 할 일은 국제 도서박람회를 위해 현장 라디오 방송을 편성하는 것입니다.”라는 통보를 받고 나는 이 일이 새로운 영역이라 두려움을 느꼈습니다. 그래서 이렇게 기도했습니다. ‘하나님, 저는 이런 일을 한 번도 해본 적이 없습니다. 도와주세요.’

하나님은 나를 도와줄 사람들과 여러 자료들을 제공해 주셨습니다. 경험이 풍부한 기술자들과 방송인들을 포함하여, 박람회 기간 동안 내가 간과했던 세부사항들을 깨닫게 해줄 사람들을 만나게 해주셨습니다. 돌이켜보니, 방송이 잘 된 이유는 하나님이 무엇이 필요한지를 아시고, 또 나에게 이미 허락하신 능력을 잘 발휘하게 해주셨기 때문이었습니다.

하나님은 우리를 어떤 일로 부르실 때 우리를 또한 준비시켜 주십니다. 브살렐에게 성막 일을 맡기셨을 때 그는 이미 숙련된 장인이었습니다. 하나님은 거기에 더해 그에게 하나님의 영으로 채우시고, 지혜와 총명과 지식과 여러 가지 재주로 준비시켜 주셨습니다(출애굽기 31:3). 하나님은 또한 오홀리압을 보조자로 세우시고 숙련된 인력을 제공해 주셨습니다(6절). 하나님의 능력 힘입어 그들은 성막과 기구와 제사장들의 의복을 디자인하고 만들었습니다. 이것들은 이스라엘 백성들이 하나님께 제대로 예배하기 위해 꼭 필요한 도구들이었습니다(7-11절).

‘브살렐’이라는 이름은 “하나님의 그늘[보호] 아래에”라는 뜻입니다. 그 장인은 하나님의 보호하심과 능력, 공급하심 아래 평생의 과제를 수행했습니다. 우리도 주신 일을 완수하기 위해 하나님이 이끄실 때 용기 있게 순종하도록 합시다. 하나님은 우리의 필요를 아시며, 언제 어떻게 주셔야 하는지도 아십니다.

CALLED AND EQUIPPED BY GOD

“Your job for the international book expo,” my boss informed me, “is to organize an onsite radio broadcast.” I felt fear because this was new territory for me. God, I’ve never done anything like this, I prayed. Please help me.

God provided resources and people to guide me: experienced technicians and broadcasters, plus reminders during the expo of details I’d overlooked. In retrospect, I know that the broadcast went well because He knew what was needed and prompted me to use the skills He’d already given me.

When God calls us to a task, He also equips us for it. When He assigned Bezalel to work on the tabernacle, Bezalel was already a skilled craftsman. God further equipped him by filling him with His Spirit and with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and all kinds of skills (EXODUS 31:3). God also gave him an assistant in Oholiab, as well as a skilled workforce (V. 6). With His enablement, the team designed and made the tent, its furnishings, and the priests’ garments. These were instrumental in the Israelites’ proper worship of God (VV. 7-11).

Bezalel means “in the shadow [protection] of God.” The craftsman worked on the project of a lifetime under God’s protection, power, and provision. Let’s courageously obey His prompting as we carry out a task to completion. He knows what we need, and how and when to give it.

장소 변경

내 친구 조앤은 2020년 코로나바이러스가 퍼지기 시작하던 바로 그때 뇌졸중으로 세상을 떠났습니다. 처음에는 가족들이 교회에서 장례 예배가 있을 것이라고 알렸지만, 참석 인원을 줄이기 위해 장례식장에서 하는 것이 가장 낫겠다고 결정했습니다. 곧 온라인에 “조앤 워너 – 장소 변경” 이라는 새로운 안내문이 실렸습니다.

그렇습니다. 조앤의 장소는 바뀌었습니다! 이 땅에서 천국으로 장소를 옮긴 것입니다. 하나님은 오래 전에 친구의 삶을 바꿔 주셨고, 친구는 거의 50년 동안 사랑을 다해 하나님을 섬겼습니다. 병원에서 죽음이 가까왔을 때에도, 조앤은 어려운 상황에 있는 다른 사랑하는 사람들의 형편을 걱정했습니다. 지금 그녀는 하나님과 함께 있습니다. 장소를 바꾼 것입니다.

바울 사도는 이 땅을 떠나 장소를 바꾸어 그리스도와 함께 있기를 열망했지만(고린도후서 5:8), 또한 동시에 이 땅에 남아 있는 것이 그가 섬기는 사람들을 위해 더 좋을 것이라고 느꼈습니다. 그래서 빌립보 신자들에게 “내가 육신으로 있는 것이 너희를 위하여 더 유익하리라”(빌립보서 1:24)고 썼습니다. 조앤 같은 누군가 때문에 슬플 때, 우리는 하나님께 이렇게 울부짖을 지도 모릅니다. ‘내 옆에, 그리고 그들이 사랑하고 섬겼던 많은 사람들 곁에 그들이 정말 필요합니다.’ 하지만 하나님은 그들과 우리 자신의 가장 적절한 장소 변경 시기가 언제인지를 잘 알고 계십니다.

우리는 지금 성령님의 능력으로 “[하나님을] 기쁘시게 하는 것을 우리의 목표로 삼고”(고린도후서 5:9, 현대인의 성경) 살면서, 나중에 하나님 얼굴을 마주 대하여 보게 될 것입니다. 그리고 그것이 훨씬 더 좋을 것입니다.

A CHANGE OF VENUE

My friend Joann passed away from a stroke just as the coronavirus began to spread in 2020. At first her family published that her memorial service would be at her church, but then it was determined it was best to hold it at a funeral home to control the size of the group attending. The new notice online read: Joann Warners—Changed Venue.

Yes, her venue had changed! She’d gone from the venue of earth to the venue of heaven. God changed her life years before, and she lovingly served Him for nearly fifty years. Even while she lay near death in the hospital, she asked about others she loved who were struggling. Now she’s present with Him; she has changed venues.

The apostle Paul had the desire to be with Christ in another venue (2 CORINTHIANS 5:8), but he also felt it would be better for the people he served for him to remain on earth. He wrote to the Philippians, “It is more necessary for you that I remain in the body” (PHILIPPIANS 1:24). When we grieve for someone like Joann, we may cry out to God something similar: They’re needed here by me and many others they loved and served. But God knows the best timing for their change of venue and our own.

In the Spirit’s strength, we now “make it our goal to please [God]” (2 CORINTHIANS 5:9) until we see Him face-to-face—which will be far better.

하나님의 작품

2022년 7월 12일 과학자들은 새로운 제임스 웹 우주 망원경이 보여줄 아주 깊은 우주의 첫 번째 이미지들을 기다리고 있었습니다. 이 최첨단 망원경으로 인류는 이전에 보았던 것보다 더 멀리 우주를 볼 수 있습니다. 갑자기 숨막히는 한 이미지가 나타났습니다. 카리나 성운의 우주 공간을 천연색으로 보여주었는데, 이전에는 결코 이런 모습을 볼 수 없었습니다. 미 항공우주국의 한 천문학자는 유명한 무신론자 칼 세이건의 말을 인용하여, “어디선가 믿을 수 없는 놀라운 일이 기다리고 있다.”고 말했습니다.

때때로 사람들은 눈으로 하나님을 향하면서도 그분을 보지 못합니다. 그러나 시편 기자 다윗은 하늘을 바라보면서 자신이 무엇을 보고 있는지 정확하게 알고 있었습니다. “주의 영광이 하늘을 덮었나이다”(시편 8:1). “믿을 수 없는 놀라운 일이 기다리고 있다”고 한 세이건의 말이 틀린 말은 아니었지만 그는 다윗이 분명하게 인식한 것을 인정하지 않았습니다. “주의 손가락으로 만드신 주의 하늘과 주께서 베풀어 두신 달과 별을 내가 보오니 사람이 무엇이기에 주께서 그를 생각하시며”(3-4절).

아주 깊은 우주의 이미지를 볼 때 우리는 그 발달한 망원경 기술보다 하나님의 작품을 목격하기 때문에 놀라움을 느낍니다. 그리고 하나님께서 창조의 광활함 속에서 우리로 “[주의] 손으로 만드신 것을 다스리게”(6절) 하신 일에 더욱 놀라게 됩니다. 그리고 정말로 “믿을 수 없는 놀라운 일이 기다리고 있습니다.” 그것은 하나님께서 예수님이 다시 오실 때 예수님을 믿는 자들을 그분께 데려오기 위해 기다리고 계신다는 것입니다. 무엇보다 가장 숨막히는 이미지가 아닐 수 없습니다.

GOD’S HANDIWORK

On July 12, 2022, scientists awaited the first images of deepest space from the new James Webb Space Telescope. The state-of-the-art telescope can look farther into the universe than mankind has ever looked before. Suddenly a breathtaking image emerges: a color space-scape of the Carina Nebula, never before seen like this. One NASA astronomer quoted Carl Sagan, a noted atheist: “Somewhere, something incredible is waiting.”

Sometimes people can look God in the eye and not see Him. But the psalmist David looked into the sky and knew exactly what he was seeing: “You have set your glory in the heavens” (PSALM 8:1). Sagan was right in saying that “something incredible is waiting,” but he failed to acknowledge what David clearly perceived: “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them” (VV. 3-4).

When we see images of deepest space, we’re amazed, not so much because of technology, but because we’re witnessing the handiwork of God. We marvel because in the vastness of creation, God has made us “rulers over the works of [his] hands” (V. 6). Indeed, “something incredible is waiting”—God, waiting to bring believers in Jesus to Him when He returns. That’s the most breathtaking image of all.

거짓과 진실

아돌프 히틀러는 큰 거짓말이 작은 거짓말보다 더 강력하다고 믿었고, 비극적이게도 자신의 그런 생각을 성공적으로 시도했습니다. 정치 초년생일 때 그는 다른 사람들의 큰 뜻을 지지하는 것으로 만족한다고 주장했습니다. 권력을 잡았을 때는 그의 정당이 어느 누구도 박해할 의도가 없다고 말했습니다. 그는 나중에 미디어를 이용해 자신을 국민의 아버지 같은 존재로, 도덕적 지도자의 이미지로 그려냈습니다.

사탄은 우리 삶 속에서 거짓을 통해 힘을 얻습니다. 그리고 그는 “거짓말쟁이요 거짓의 아비”(요한복음 8:44)이기 때문에 가능할 때마다 우리를 두려움과 분노와 절망에 빠지게 합니다. 예수님의 말씀처럼, 사탄은 그 안에 어떤 진리도 들어 있지 않기 때문에 진리를 말할 수 없습니다.

LIES AND TRUTH

Adolf Hitler believed big lies were more powerful than small ones, and, tragically, he tested his theory successfully. Early in his political career, he claimed he was content to support others’ aspirations. When he came to power, he said his party didn’t intend to persecute anyone. Later, he used the media to portray himself as a father figure and moral leader.

Satan uses lies to gain power in our lives. Whenever possible, he provokes fear, anger, and despair because he’s “a liar and the father of lies” (JOHN 8:44). Satan can’t tell the truth because, as Jesus said, he doesn’t have any truth inside of him.

Here are a few of the enemy’s lies. First, our prayers don’t matter. Not true. The Bible says, “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (JAMES 5:16). Second, when we’re in trouble, there’s no way out. Wrong again. “All things are possible with God” (MARK 10:27), and “he will also provide a way out” (1 CORINTHIANS 10:13). Third, God doesn’t love us. That’s false. Nothing can “separate us” from God’s love through Christ Jesus (ROMANS 8:38-39).

God’s truth is more powerful than lies. If we obey Jesus’ teaching in His strength, then we “will know the truth,” reject what’s false, and “the truth will set [us] free” (JOHN 8:31-32).
